The New Mexico Department of Transportation
(NMDOT) contracted with Laser Geomatics to scan the Atrisco
Pedestrian and Utility Bridge just east of the Coors/I-40 interchange
as a part of the overall redesign of the highly traveled interchange.
The structure was scanned and partially modeled to allow designers
to better understand the impact of subtle alignment and grade
changes near the bridge. The key to this project's success hinged on
the ability of Laser Geomatics to provide surface information and
bridge geometry in a matter of days, rather than weeks, and the ability
to accomplish this without any lane closures.
The scanning portion of this project took approximately 12 hours and
included 13 scans. Bohannan Huston, Inc. provided the traditional
surveying necessary to align the scan data into state plane
coordinates. After collection of the scan data on a Wednesday and
Thursday (with no lane closures), the scans were post-processed
and the following deliverables were created and delivered within two
weeks:
- Microstation files with bridge vector linework
and partially
modeled structure, vector
linework of walls, concrete wall
barrier,
lane lines and centerlines
- Inroads Digital Terrain Model (DTM)
