The Survey and Lands Engineering Department of the New Mexico
Department of Transportation contacted Laser
Geomatics in need of surface and existing feature data for the area
surrounding Broadway Avenue and the Bloomfield Wash. Since
existing mapping proved to be inadequate, the request was made
for mapping of 1000 linear feet of roadway centered over the
Bloomfield Wash as well as the location and orientation of the
existing 6-barrel concrete box culvert and it’s associated head and
wingwalls.
Laser Geomatics scanned the required areas on a Wednesday and
Thursday and tied the scans to existing project survey control with
traditional survey while in the field. After field collection, the data was
post-processed (points sampled, DTM and vector linework created)
and submitted as a final product the following Tuesday for a project
of five working days. This deliverable required no supplemental
survey.
The key to this project’s success hinged on the ability of Laser
Geomatics to provide a surface and CBC geometry in a matter of
days, rather than weeks, and the ability to accomplish this without
any lane closures. These deliverables were provided at a cost equal
to or less than that required for traditional surveying or
photogrammetric mapping.
